CV

I am a space scientist with a keen interest in data science. My main fields of expertise are:

  1. Physics-driven statistical learning: developing statistical and multiresolution (wavelet) techniques for characterising physical processes in the solar-terrestrial environment. Application to different contexts: solar irradiance and climate records, automated recognition of radio spectra, etc. One example is a new methodology for combining multiple observations in one single composite, see here.

  2. Space weather: developing operational tools for characterising the impact of solar activity on the upper atmosphere. Recently we introduced the 30 cm radio flux as a new solar UV proxy. I’m presently co-coordinator of the French organisation for applied space weather research (OFRAME).

  3. Instrument development and exploitation for satellite missions: AC magnetic and current density sensors for space plasmas. Lead CoI of the search-coil onboard NASA’s amazing Parker Solar Probe mission (launched Nov 2018), of current/magnetic field sensors on sounding rockets (ACES1, ACES2, CHARM, ...), on the Solar Orbiter mission (launched in 2020) and on satellite mission proposals.

At the University of Orléans I teach courses in physics, computational physics, data science, signal processing, geophysics and scientific writing. I am also responsible for the Master de Physique Fondamentale et Applications (PhyFA) and its new Space Sciences and Applications programme, which is fully in English.
